Google Ranking and Provincial Election

It was not what I had planned, to have two completely unrelated things come into the subject line of my blog post of the month.

It all started with a random phone call.

I am taking this Wednesday (today) off. In the late morning, my phone rang, and I answered. Someone on the other side of the wireless invisible line said my website was not on Google page number 1 and he could help me fix that, so I could have more customers and get myself busier.

“There’s something to fix” is a very interesting mindset.

Wasn’t Google set up to help the users?

Isn’t this setup supposed to be organic?

I have not hesitated to put myself out there when I need to and whenever I have time, through writing and speaking. If some other businesses rather than mine get on Google page number 1, it only means, supposedly, either Google thinks they can serve others better than I do or they have more time and energy to serve. How can I ever not be happy for that?

If I had decided to work on the purpose of getting myself onto Google page number 1, I’d start to feel working on the wrong thing.

Google Ranking and Provincial Election

Needless to say, I have no clue what kind of search terms the caller had used to find that I was not on Google page number 1. I can’t help but think that the caller doesn’t know my business that much.

Needless to say, I have a feeling that if I had said yes to his service, and after he had successfully put me on Google page number 1 based on whatever search keywords he determined, he’d probably turn to other businesses whose Google listings ended up in page 2 or more as a result of him helping me, so he could offer them the same solutions.

Truthfully, none of these Google things needs to be about boosting my business ranking, or his business profits. I still believe, it all needs to be about service to the public. Whoever can serve the public the best, why can we not just let it be?

It doesn’t mean things won’t change. They always do. “Letting it be” means flowing with it.

The mentality of “survival” needs to stop being a goal. It’s time to enjoy whatever life provides us. I don’t have to get myself into working days and nights to “survive” (which I already do just fine), to be worthy (which I already am), or to be a successful Hypnotherapist (which I already am).

I’ve had those days when I was working non-stop, day and night, seven days a week. it just happened, not because I have done some Google ranking strategies.

So, I interrupted the caller’s speech. “Thank you. You don’t need to continue, and I don’t need you to send me any reports. What you have to offer sounds very wonderful and I have no use of it.”

Hanging up the phone, my thoughts turned to the provincial election that is going on right now. Can you see the similarities?

I went to vote yesterday. Until a few days ago, I had thought all along that I was going to vote for one party. But one day, I received a pamphlet in the mail from the candidate of the party in my riding. In the pamphlet, on one side, colourfully was his photo and the points of what he stood for. On the other side, monochromatically was a photo of his “competitor” and the interpreted “unthinkable” points the competitor stood for. This candidate obviously took pride in putting his competitor down and ridiculing him.

When politicians forgot they were to serve the public without imposing too much of their agendas and when they started to attack, I changed my vote.
