Summer Depression Hypnotherapy

It was as if yesterday. I was a high school student. Summer started. The school was out. It was hot. And I was not having anything to do, any place to go, and fun to get. Only my mother was there observing my ever-growing boredom, and she had no way to get me out of the summer depression.

We know summer is supposed to be fun and relaxing. We are supposed to be having a great time. The problem is, that supposition only adds more stress to the depression.

What Do We Need To Know About Summer Depression?

  • Summertime SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is that seasonal changes cause depression. Normally SAD causes depression for some people in wintertime, as the day gets shorter and colder, but there are people with SAD who get it in the reverse. Summer heat can be oppressive for some people. The longer days cause trouble sleeping. And the humidity may all play a role in summer depression.
  • Financial Worries – The supposed fun may cause money. Vacation in summer can be expensive. Summer camps for kids, babysitters to keep the kids occupied… they all add up to the expenses and therefore the depression.
  • Body Image Issues – In my work, most of the weight loss clients say they feel more comfortable in winter clothes than summer ones. As when they hide themselves in the thick layers of clothing, they don’t have to see their own bodies therefore feeling self-conscious. A bathing suit can make them awkward.
  • What Can We Do When Summer Depression Happens?

  • Balance Activities and Sleep – No doubt, a good night’s sleep will give you enough energy during the day. Longer days may encourage you to stay up later than usual, not getting enough sleep is a common trigger for depression. Make a good habit of sleeping well. And then make plans for summer activities preferably outdoors.
  • Plan Ahead if you are travelling – A vacation is not a real vacation if you are too stressed, financially or physically. Consider alternatives. It doesn’t have to be an obligation.
  • Get Help – Even though the days are long, summer in some areas can be short. Don’t take the signs of depression lightly. Don’t wait them out, assuming they will resolve on their own. Sometimes, what starts as summer depression can turn into a longer-lasting major depression. After all, you can also enjoy the summer.
  • The causes can be different for different people, therefore the solutions are different. What you want is to be happy, energized, peaceful, and restful.
